New year, new ADHD

To be honest, I feel like the new year can SOMETIMES feel worse than Christmas Day and Christmas Eve! It just reminds me that it is “new possibilities” and some of them are not good possibilities. New year = new me! And with ADHD, it means new year = new stresses and new life and that I have to change! One of the things that I’m trying to learn is how to be more self accepted, in other words, more kind and accepting of myself! January is in 4 days for me, let’s go and find new possibilities, the good ones.

I really love that you’re talking about self-acceptance. Recently, Vital and I defined our mission at NUMO — and at its core, it’s exactly this. We believe neurodivergent people are amazing, but so many of us don’t feel good about ourselves (me too). We want neurodivergent people to feel great about who they are. To accept themselves, to love themselves, and to be proud of themselves. Somehow it gives me a lot of hope

To be fair to yourself even further - a “new year, new me” can begin whenever you want it to. Don’t let the world put that pressure on you to *have to* begin at the beginning of the year… it’s YOUR LIFE. Live it the best way you’re able to, whenever that’s possible. Life is a series of ebbs and flows… a roller coaster ride… take the wins when they come, and the hits when they come, too. A fresh start/beginning is whenever YOU decide for it to happen. *Also, you can do the same with a wonky/bad day. Just start all over again, like with a “refresh button.” Which will further give you practice to not put so much pressure on yourself to perform harder than necessary, and form the brain muscle that says, “hey, it’s okay; let’s try again, friend.” Some days it will be harder than others to practice building that brain muscle, but the point is that you are trying, and that’s worth a whole lot more than you can realize. (And never, ever let anyone else tell you otherwise!!) 💖💖💖💖💖
