How do you not get overwhelmed by too much work, short time + deadline

I have a shitload to do for work before leaving on vacation this weekend. Each task takes about 3 hours of work and my workdays are overbooked. So at home I work till crazy hours but there seems to be no progress. The only progress I’ve made so far is getting exhausted 😴 I’m feeling seriously overwhelmed now and feel panic entering my body 😭

Upcoming holidays always seem to make chaos build up in my calendar!! I can definitely relate. Just want to preface this by saying this is very much advice that I need to take as well, as I often forget all of this until work gets crazy overwhelming and then I remember I need to take a step back and slow down! I find it helps me to visually prioritise things in my calendar and remind myself I can’t do multiple things at once so I try not to overlap anything in my calendar and give myself a bit more time than I think I need because inevitably I initially underestimated the time I would take to do most things anyway. I figure it’s a bonus if I take less time! This also usually helps me to advocate for myself when other people might be wanting me to do something for them sooner than I physically can fit in my calendar. I’m often pretty disappointed in myself that I can’t do as much as I want to before I go away, but also need to actively remind myself that I’m not a productivity robot so have to give myself some slack so I’m not getting in my own way by feeling bad about myself and what I have the capacity to do. I hope that helps!

talk to people who can leave you of the hook first: Communiacate clearly! It's not the solution for everything, but for lots of stuff.

Thanks god I work in a great company with great leads, so for me the solution was just to be honest with them. They know about my ADHS, and that’s my burn out costs a lot to recover, it can be months , so I just care about myself first, how much I can handle without being crazy and lack of sleep and etc, and say to them that’s it, the rest after vacation. Works well, already more then a year

This is always me before vacations 🙈 but last-minute panic seems to be a very effective fuel for me 🙈😅

Needs a 3rd category of that’s exactly me too! I feel the same way so I don’t have an answer. I probably am up till three and four in the morning every night working. Fast track to burnout. But I don’t have an answer and I’m too old to get another job. If I wasn’t though that’s exactly what I would do. I’m just trying to hang onto till I can retire in two years.

Haha it does! Let me see if I can add it haha. That’s exactly what’s happening, lack of sleep (if there is any sleep 😴) up working until 3 or so in the night. It’s crazy but I know the hard truth for me is that I love the night for these things because there less distractions and the quit world… this is the first job in my career where I’m so dedicated to. Always said “people who do that are crazy” and yet here I am. Getting crazy, but loving my job asides this part 😫. Wishing you all the best! Hopefully we’ll get some helpful advice ✨
