Happy Hanukkah!

Tonight we light the first Hanukkah candle 🕯️ Grandpa always says that when we light it, we remember that even a very small light can push away a lot of darkness. Hanukkah is about not giving up. About keeping your faith and who you are, even when people try to scare you or make you disappear. Long time ago the light should have gone out, but it didn’t. It stayed. And it still stays. Today this feels extra important. Jews were attacked and killed just because they were celebrating Hanukkah. That is very sad and very wrong. Hate is real, and antisemitism is still real. But Hanukkah teaches us that hate never wins in the end. When we light the first candle, we don’t do it only for ourselves. We do it to show that light is stronger than fear. That life is stronger than violence. And that hope is stronger than hate. This light is for the people who are scared, for the people who are sad, and for everyone who wants the world to be better. One candle at a time. Happy Hanukkah 🕯️ May the light grow every night.

Happy Hanukkah!

Why the light can stay so long? Is that because of the special design below? (It's beautiful btw,

I don't really understand what you mean with that the light stay so long. It's just ordinary candles. Or do you mean the text? It's about the reason we celebrate it cuz like long long time ago ppl hated us (as usual 😜) and there was like king or something in Greece and maybe also Syria i think that was like took Jerusalem or something and then it was like a temple there and they took it from us and we took it back against like all odds...and then we took it back there was just oil enough for light in the holy room for one day and it would take like 8 days or something to produce new oil buy they prayed to Hashem and then the oil let the light be lit all the time until new oil was made so like s miracle and thats why have 8 candles on the chanukkian (plus the middle candle that is only to start the other candles with... Hard to explain) Maybe I wrote something a little wrong cuz I'm not like a rabbi or anything but this is how I remember what Grandpa have told me.

It never occurred to me that I should turn my chanukiah around so that the front faces the window. Or did someone start from the left instead of the right? A candle is added from right to left, but then we light from left to right to honour the new candle first. (Now I need to Google if this is a thing 🤓)

Yes my grandpa told me also then he got home. It was like my fault cuz I was like not thinking about it and my dad's are not very religious or traditional so they didn't told me to change it. 😳

Thank you for your explanation! I never know, how to respond correctly (just happy Hannukah?), but perhaps it's not a big problem. Take Care!

Its not really important. Most ppl and especially if not Jewish would say like happy Hanukkah or happy holiday I mean it's not the words that is important really. But like cuz you asked I tell you like how you can answer if you want to like show you understand Jewish culture; Chag Sameach eller Chag Hanukkah Sameach Chag is like holiday and sameach is like happy so it works for all Jewish holidays: just chag sameach or like chag pesach sameach or like Chag sukkot Sameach or whatever holiday it is (cuz we have like plenty! Mostly it's about ppl wanted to kill us but we survived and then celebrate life - that's like super Jewish 😎✡️)
