Home vs Worklife

Does anyone feel like you function better & accomplish more at your workplace? I feel I am more organized & productive. I get frustrated I'm not this way in my life outside of work.

I work best when I have a body double. I stay on task better like when cooking or cleaning. I WFH every day except one day per week I go in office. I then just want to talk or chat in the am but once I get that out the way I love having a person right there to bounce ideas off or get their opinion on a design i/o having to put in a Teams chat. As I tend to overthink designs or just picking a pink Pantone. Music or putting on a movie helps me stay on task at home.

Work environments also provide an existing system, along with deadlines and consequences, forcing us to focus on them more. At home, there isn’t much external accountability, and the consequences fom family and feels more personal than work, so it gets harder to not internalize their feedback.

Yesssssss. Able to let my guards down at home. Gets in the way of the chores though.

Yes, I experience the same thing. However, I’ve noticed if I take homework to work when I’m not working, or some other “productive” task, that I am easily distracted because I’m just thinking about work by being in that environment. 😅

New to this app. Just wanted to say it has been a while since I felt so heard. It was really nice to know I'm not alone in these feelings. Thank you

I also believe my husband & son make it so I'm not as productive cause they'll leave messes for me to clean up. I get discouraged & then it piles up & it's overwhelming. I told my husband it had to do with my ADHD & he laughed.

I’m sorry he doesn’t take it seriously enough.

As for the messes, can you focus on the ones you make and not on theirs. Depending on how old your son is, he’s probably old enough to clean up his own messes. You are not their maid!

I’m sorry that your husband doesn’t take your ADHD seriously. My parents think I don’t have ADHD, despite being diagnosed by a psychiatrist. It’s frustrating and can feel really lonely.

Yes! I will go into my office even when I don't need to so I can finish items on my list.

I’m absolutely the same way! For me, it’s the external deadlines and meeting the expectations of my supervisor that keeps me motivated. At home, I just don’t have the same internal motivation to get things done.

I feel the same way!! I think it’s the difference in environment that changes our mindset towards working/being productive. I wish I could switch it on and off no matter the location :,)
