Makeup artist here 😌 Super relatable. What helps me best is using the color I have a mood for or is just satisfying to look at, without thinking about shapes, theme or end result. Going with the flow of my mood and feelings. Random lines or shape often give me associations with something, so I go from there. Also love just practicing movements of techniques I enjoy. Sometimes the ideas come from the feeling of doing random things I like. Little details or different brush strokes kinda do the job for me and I follow my instincts. Hope my experience helps ☺️
Doing something related to your current hyperfixation (I'm always obsessed with skulls or portraits). Making sure to take the pressure off of it -make it for you. And interacting with art that you enjoy or films about art and artmaking, the anime "Blue Period" really helped Inspire me
When I had art block, I watched Sinix Design Paintsploration videos on YouTube, they inspired me a lot, so I recommend them
Another method for me, that's not for everyone, is mushrooms. Great at unblocking for me but be prepared to have to confront whatever mental stressors are responsible for the block in the first place.
Lately, using ai generator. Midjourney is one of the easiest to get started with. Sometimes attending one of the livestreams or just looking through people's prompts in discord give me tons of inspiration. Then experimenting with my own prompts helps push the boundaries of my own imagination, gives me great sort of visual outlines or concepts or composition to take even further with my own designs
I have too moods, either watching other people's art, maybe going to some new place that has art in it, old mosques, museums...etc. Even if it is not the kind of art you do, it helps to see something fresh. The other is to do something you wanted to try but didn't, so I do it knowing I am only doing it for myself it really helps if it is away from your field, like I do calligraphy and use acrylic so I will draw freely and with coloured pencils. So I know it willn't be my thing so I can be bad at it.
