Medication

Wondering who has experience with taking different medications and what’s worked for you? Is it normal to get a diagnosis and then not take meds? I’m not against it at all, but wondering what’s going to work best for me.

Try Lions Mane mushroom as a dietary supplement and/or capsule dosage for increased brain function and neural regeneration. Helps me, other than that sleep and lift heavy/cardio to improve blood flow to brain and testosterone is the key hormone. Don’t drink, don’t smoke weed (often, at least), don’t spend time with people that aren’t challenging your growth/keeping you stagnant. If you hate your job, find one you like or are interested even if it doesn’t pay well at first. The last one did the most to help me understand my focus is always more present when I care about the task I’ve been given. Enough to not need Vyvanse anymore which was for the best.

It is SO different for everyone. It’s dependent on lots of factors. Individual biochemistry, other meds that one might be taking, mode of delivery, mechanism of action, etc. If ADHD symptoms impair your ability to “do life”, it’s definitely worth discussing meds with your provider! Just know that, like most folks have said in these comments, it takes some trial & error

Vyvanse made me feel physically terrible. Adderall XR made me too edgy and irritable all day. Started Focalin 7 days ago and so far, it’s been the best. Not as intense of side effects for me.

I’ve tried Adderall, Vyvanse, Ritalin, Focalin, Azstarys and one other. Vyvanse has always been what’s worked best for me. The others weren’t nearly as effective. Azstarys sent me spiraling into a very scary depression. It was awful.

I tried concerta, it was awful for me. It made me like over the top irritable and I would go from super happy to seeing red angry over the tiniest things to bawling my eyes out. Then adderall worked for about a year but now I’m searching for something new.

Me too. Worst 2 weeks of my life. Adderall IR works best for me as anything with extended-release builds up in my system. I take a pediatric dose but metabolism it in 3 hours. And it took a year and the help of a psychiatric nurse who specializes in ADHD to help me nitrate down from the starting dose to find the right solution for me. Yeesh.

I’m taking vyvance - I still feel distracted though… I’ve taken concerta too but I developed a tolerance for it

I take 10 MG generic Adderall daily, and it helps a great deal. It's not perfect obviously, and my symptoms would PROBABLY be better managed with a higher dose, but I'm not looking for perfection just assistance.

I have ADHD but I am also bipolar, so I started to treat bipolar first because it was more damaging to my quality of life than ADHD. I tried different medications for about 3 years until I found my right meds and dosage. Now I will start taking meds for ADHD as well and my doctor said that Concerta will be the best option because it doesn’t mess with my bipolar treatment. I will start next week and I’m very curious to see how I will feel.
