Anything but the thing

Anyone else do absolutely anything except the one thing that genuinely needs to be done and is causing you an endless stream of anxiety as a result. Any hacks for this?

I swear by my Time Timers! I have them all through my house and a wrist watch. It is an investment, yes, collected them over time (probably a bit of an obsession tbh) but they help SO much.

No hacks. I'm legit having anxiety even thinking about this question. It's a big problem for me. That one thing always feels so overwhelming even when it's a tiny task.

Haha, yes. I had to start writing down all the consequences I deal with of not getting it done…like late fees, self criticism, and stress. I remind myself what I am like without the added stress, and then I estimate the realistic time it takes. I often avoid tasks that seem overwhelming (like a pile of dishes) and then realize it wasn’t actually that bad to begin with, it just seemed like it.

Yes I do this all the time. I don’t really have a hack, but a more positive way to look at it. I call doing this productive procrastination. You are still procrastinating but on the bright side at least you get other things done in the mean time 😂

I can get a lot of stuff done, that’s not my issue…atleast not today. My issue and sounds like yours is getting THAT THING done. I found if plan…and that is…IF I PLAN…and I put THAT on my list…I can get done. My list has to be short, but I can get done then. List what’s important. Make your list short. When you accomplish THAT THING something changes and you become powerful. Knowingly powerful. Plan it. Do it. And you will change… I fall off the wagon when I get good at executing. I get so much important stuff done…then I feel in control and slack off. Today I am getting back on… before my world falls apart again. I just realized…I have changed for the better. I can do this! You can too! Thank you for helping me with myself by putting your challenge out there. We’re all messed, but we’re all alright!

Same here. I have to be well rested and in a good head space to tackle the “worst” stuff. Had success today doing work in small chunks.

Haha, me to a T. Been putting off my oil change for a couple weeks now because I’m too tired when I have time off work. And now I have to go get it because my steering fluid is way low 😅.
