Fatigue and anxiety

Hey. I’m new to this, and I’m coming close to having a proper ADHD diagnosis. So, I’ve been gathering myself together for the last week and I’ve noticed patterns : I can be hyperactive for like 3 weeks, like A LOT, no time to rest whatsoever, and then there are always one or two days in a row when I feel exhausted or get sick, and feel like I have 0 energy and do absolutely nothing. When I’m like that I often feel really anxious because I feel like a failure having those mood swings, I feel good when I’m in action. Does this happen to you all? Can ADHD cause anxiety?

I have weeks I’m useless. And then get anxiety from being so useless. Let me just ramble my ideas because I feel urged to. For these days, if you’re finding you’re not getting your todo list done, put it away. Not finishing anything will bring you down more when it’s on paper infront of you. If it’s an app, archive the todo list. (When you are productive again you will seek the app or list out don’t worry.) Don’t pick up your phone when you wake up. Check time, turn off alarm, then go brush your teeth and all that if you can. Then step outside and breathe in some fresh air and pick out today’s outfit. Basically, don’t drown yourself in dopamine from the internet asap. With ADHD, you don’t make that shit good, don’t deplete it as soon as you open your eyes. This one might be bad advice but caffeine helped me a lot. If you have a good source of protein, have protein in the morning, and then healthhyyyyy carbs for lunch. For energy. Vitamins won’t cure you but they’re freaking good for you okay? Take em. It helps some people. Especially vitamin D. Also, hormones play a big part for me. Like my cycle and I’m not just talking about my period. There’s different cycles besides menstruation that mess me tf up. And yes. If you are born a boy, men bodies have these cycles, too. But also. Burnt out is real. Maybe see what it’s like to take that third day to rest. Just this once. See if it helps. You said 2 days? Rest in the 3rd day where you’re normally productive again. Treat yourself. See what happens. You might only be recovering enough to cycle again before you’re burn out again. And the choice of just- I could but I’m gonna choose me today and do a fun lil hobby or puzzle or something that isn’t ever on my mental to do because it’s not a chore- do that. I’m basically hyperactive in my noggin more than my body so when I’m crashed out, I look like I’ve been drugged cause I already kinda move slow. So. But I only have these ideas to offer you some guidance or atleast a place to start. Our brains working the way it does in a society meant for neurotypical is freaking exhausting. Sometimes, you gotta give in to the rest. You are working super hard to get everything you do done. Sorry this is long. Good luck fr fr 🫶🏼✨🥺

Thanks for making me feel less bad about myself. I’ve actually not been at work for a whole week, I’ve got a sick leave but this time and thanks to your advices I’ve been feeling less guilty. I’m trying to be gentle on myself instead of blaming me all the time. I’ve started therapy which also have made the last couple of days quite intense, but it’s also a relief. So, I’ll be allowing myself to feel tired, to cry, to be happy and all of those emotions at the same time. It’s okay not to be okay. I don’t have to be the best all the time and it feels good to surrender sometimes. And most importantly, I’ve stopped worrying about what people are going to think at work. If they don’t like it, if they think I’m lazy and unstable, I’ll let them think. For the next couple of days, I’ll start with the easy. Thanks for your advices and understanding ❤️

ADHD and anxiety? Oh yeah, they’re like inseparable besties — where one goes, the other follows. And that 3-week hyper mode followed by a crash? Honestly, you’re lucky it’s just 2 days! Those lows are just your brain begging for rest. Be kind to yourself — they’re part of the cycle. Also, check out the Numo topic on anxiety, it’s right under your post and super helpful!
