How to cull out clothing

Just looking for any and all tips on how to deal with my clothing. I have so much. It is painful to go through them all and I feel like even when I take out and donate a bunch, it barely makes a dent which makes me just so frustrated with myself and then I freeze and just give up on it. I desperately want a clean, simplified bedroom, but I just seem to be incapable of it.

My clothes don’t fit in our little closet space. So to cut down without making it crazy overwhelming i won’t buy/bring in new without getting rid of old. Current rule is 1 new = 2 old ones get tossed. Then when the bag is full I toss it in the car. It makes it a lot more stress free because it’s a rule with a process that forces getting rid of stuff

They say to decide on a day to turn all your hangers backwards and set a target day in the future (3 mos, 6 mos, a year). When you take a hanger down to wear something and you launder it, put it back in your closet the normal way. On your target day, any hangers still left in the backwards position is what needs to go.

keep a trash bag or a box for donation in your closet. should the inspiration strike you, it’ll already be prepared, and should you be trying to find something to wear and find something you don’t love anymore, you know where to put it. if you’re dating invite them to visit your house in a week or two, then you’ll be motivated to clean up for them.

When I feel like this I take it bit by not. I get a big laundry basket and dump items into it. Then I remove all hangers from my closet and put them on the bed. I start pulling items from the basket and hanging them one by one. If I find an item I’m not immediately happy with I put it in a “Blah” pile. I deal with this pile at the end. I ask myself if I have a friend who may want the item, or if it’s good enough quality to donate. Hope this helped. ☺️

I would take out a laundry basket and commit to small bursts of donating. Either you will 1) fall in love with that piece again or 2) donate it to someone who will love it. Just do that one basket and give yourself the WIN!

Have you watched Marie Kondo’s show about her method? You put all of the clothes in a pile— everything— and one by one decide if it gives you joy. If it does, hang it up/put it away. If not thank it for bringing you joy once and donate/ sell it.

I saw someone once said, if you haven't worn it in a year, get rid of it! But I know that's much easier said than done
