Anything above 10g of sugar is like poison to your body, but you can have some sugar. Maybe just replace some things with monk fruit snacks. You can get them at almost any grocery store so snacks that list monk fruit as the sugar replacement. You can also buy the powder to mix into drinks, but also understand why your body is craving it and maybe make note of how you’re feeling and why you want it. Like is it emotional or are you wanting it in the afternoon for energy? If it’s energy there are other things you can take. Maybe green tea even though it has caffeine it has antioxidants, but you could also replace cookies to fruit because even though it’s sugar, it’s a healthier form with more nutrients and vitamins.
I would read up on Intuitive Eating. Trying to restrict sugar might actually be making it worse (it certainly did for me!) Taking the power away from treats allows you to make better decisions about whether or not you really want to eat them. When I tried to eat sugar free, I found myself eating cookies and candy compulsively. These days I still occasionally use treats as a dopamine pick-me-up, but I am just as likely to choose something else (a song, a walk outside, a game, etc). So when I do have a treat, I actually enjoy it.
One small habit change could be to not drink your sugar & calories and stick to water, tea, or coffee. Not only will that new habit help you cut back tremendously on the sugar intake, you’ll also experience less glucose spikes throughout the day!!! It’s a small change that can save your health in the long-term and save you some money as well!
