send help

Hi! I was diagnosed with the inattentive type ADHD about a month before I moved into college. I take meds but my issues with my adhd are more behavioral, so i’m trying to adress that with apps and such like this one. I got way to caught up in having fun and partying that I neglected to do majority of my work for a whole month. Any tips for completing schoolwork for someone who literally avoids it like the plague? please send help ya girl is gonna fail and my mother is going to kill me.

In my experience, I tend to avoid tasks that don’t give me dopamine. While you will always have to do things that just need to be done, if they prevail, this might be a hint. Same goes for college. There will always be subjects, that you just need to get through, but if this is basically all of them, you might want to take a good look at your chosen major and find out if this is really right for you. Also, your medication should help you do these tasks anyway, so you might need to check in with your doctor and optimize that, but still make sure you’re on the right career path. Avoidance of unpleasant tasks is definitely an ADHD thing, but the amount of them in your life can also be a message. Hope this helps 🍀

Also, if you know you’re on the right path, and still avoid tasks, try this approach: don’t think about the task at hand, think about the bigger picture. You don’t have to do the task, you get to do it in order to get closer to your goal. Reframing this in your head makes it easier. If I see a clear WHY, then it’s way easier to just do things.

And last one: if you’re hanging out with a crowd, that’s just there for the party, it’s easy to get pulled down with them. You might want to think about upgrading your environment.
