Do you dissociate?

Sometimes, I completely dissociate from reality while I’m at work or socializing. Except it’s kind of different from just getting distracted, I feel paralysed, like I can’t move, think or speak for a couple of minutes and my body tingles and my brain feels completaly empty as if my soul just left my body. Sometimes I get scared that there’s something wrong with me and I’m about to faint or be sick or something. But then, I’ll slowly start listening and looking at what’s around me, and I feel like I can ground myself again, move and react. When it happens it always feels so weird though. Does this happen to you?

It’s my go to but I’m training myself to process more.

It sounds like what you are experiencing is depersonalization… it is where you feel like you are detaching from your body. I don’t experience this but I experience derealization, where I feel like nothing around me is real like I am watching a movie. It still scares me a bit, but I just try to relax when it happens and it passes.

It kind of sounds like what I call “zoning out” but maybe a bit more extreme? I’ve never felt paralyzed, but just like the world gets fuzzy for a moment (or ten). I suppose I’m not moving, so that could be what you’re describing. Are you worried about it?

seems similar. i’m not very worried anymore. i think it’s triggered by being bery tired, stressed or overstimulated, so i’ll just detach from the world around me 🤔

I experience a different type of dissociation, which is I think called derealization? Whenever experiencing big emotions or just randomly throughout the day when I'm sad, my brain goes on autopilot mode. Whatever I did I cannot remember, and there's blurs and bits of it but I can't remember all of it. Like for example, just 5 minutes ago I was sad and had to sweep, after I was done sweeping I did something else and when I came back to the spot I was surprised cause I did not remember sweeping it until it came back to me. Even now as I'm writting this I try to remember bits of what I was doing.

Sounds like an anxiety or panic attack too. I get those sometimes

Yes it has happened to me in the past. I don’t normally notice the disconnect but it comes slowly back

I think mine was in response to stress (real or perceived probably) overload
