Sometimes I feel like ADHD controls me.

I go to a Science High School and honestly it sucks. I try to keep studying and it’s not letting me work properly and I feel so out of place. I can’t even feel normal anymore. I feel like an ugly, dumb ogre who can’t even do simple tasks. It feels paralyzing. :(

It’s not you, it’s being forced to live in a neurotypical world. Give yourself grace and love. When you can, take courses that interest you or find what interests you in courses that don’t. Do you have an Advisor? If so, see if they can get you accommodations, especially the ability to take classes you’re into. Study buddy or body doubling will help. Take small steps and note all your successes even the tiny ones! You can do this 😘

Hey, I’m really sorry you’re feeling this way. It can be incredibly hard sometimes, especially in a school environment. There’s also a lot of boring or uninteresting stuff you’re forced to push through. Sometimes it can help to find a tiny bit of fun in the task — like the Mary Poppins idea: ‘In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun. You find the fun and — snap! — the job’s a game.’ Gamification helped me a lot. Please try to be a little kinder to yourself. You’re not an ‘ugly dumb ogre.’ Your struggle deserves understanding, not shame, and it doesn’t define your worth.
