Money saving with ADHD

How do you save money with impulsive thoughts about buying useless stuff? Any tips? Different bank accounts or accounting apps? šŸ¤”

I am trying to get my banks online and rest to put change money aside for me monthly. Now about impulsively buying stuffā€¦.I am in the situation for all my life..huge issue. Lately with my therapist we talk about my impulses and how does my mind confuses at the moment want or actually need. I need deprogramming and not lie to myself when it happens. But it is so hard I have no good spending compassā€¦only when I am brave and say to myself that I have a shopping addiction then i see the issue and it helps. But in generalā€¦i am tired of fighting it. I am now trying to learn about sinking funds and have a sinking fund only for impulse buys and fun stuff. Maybe like 30-50ā‚¬ per month. Good luck to all of us

As I buy things I donā€™t need, I sell them as the want disappears, and use that money to go into my ā€œimpulse fundā€ for the next time I think I need something but donā€™t. Currently trying to force myself not to buy the Zelda edition switch when I have a perfect good switch, just not the Zelda design. So I completely understand

I guess itā€™s a need of something new. Sticker could work. When Iā€™m thinking to buy a new phone, Iā€™m watching commercials for my current model, changing wallpaper and may be a cover. Minimum budget, but feeling better

Have you considered buying Zelda stickers/skins for your switch? šŸ¤” I think it should work.

I like to impulse buy on Amazon, so now what I do is I put whatever I am thinking about buying into my cart for 24 hours. If I still want it, I wait 24 more. If I still want it and have the money, I get it, but most often by then I am obsessing over something else and don't get it, lol.

The only thing that works for me is to send money to an investment account at the same moment I receive a payment. If I want to withdraw money from that account it usually takes 2-3 days, so it helps A LOT to avoid impulsive purchases. Well, at least it was like that until I got my credit card šŸ˜šŸ˜¤

Oh, how much I understand your feelings! To make it easier, I used a tool in my banking app that saves percent from my spending, also it takes a bit at the end of the day to round off the funds on my card. Cash back options are also a great way to save money on your buying. Actually, for me also works to have both paper money and virtual money (card) - but I still need to care about it more often! I should limit my spending, cause some emergency such as moving into another place to live or having dentist appointments might leave me too broke at the end of the financial month.
