Embarrassing Q from 13 yo boy: Did u wet the bed as a kid? 😳

Now I’m gonna ask an embarrassing question. It’s something I think is really hard and I’d like to hear if u adults also had problems like not waking up at night when u need to pee? I have this problem almost every night and I’ve had it my whole life. It’s super embarrassing but the last few years I’ve really been trying not to feel ashamed about it, so it’s kinda like training for me to dare talk and ask about this. My dad and my uncle (he’s a psychologist) say it’s good to challenge yourself with things ur scared of but that aren’t really dangerous, coz then it gets easier not to be scared. And this feels like a safe enough place to start. I sleep with “protection” so I don’t have to wake up in a wet bed in the middle of the night, but that also makes me not always dare to do sleepovers with friends I don’t know really well, coz I’m scared they’ll tease me. I tried that alarm thing but it didn’t work, it just made me super tired coz I woke up but it was already too late anyway. I also got a nose spray but that didn’t work either and it just made me feel kinda sick. Did anyone else have the same thing when u were a kid or teen? Was there something that helped? When did it stop and what made it stop? Did u have tricks or stuff u did or maybe things u said to make it feel less super embarrassing? How did ur friends react when they found out? Is it anything you can tell me to make it a little easier? 🤗❤️ I hope I get some answers coz it was pretty hard to write this 😳🫣💙

i used to have this problem, too, when i was younger; my sister did as well. i think i was around 8-ish years old when i stopped. i stopped wetting the bed after doing things like (1) drinking less before bed, and (2) using the bathroom before bed. hope this helps!!

i always had problems with that until i was about your age i think I wore night times which are like toddler diapers lol, for a while and i did mess up my clothes sometimes after i stopped using them but then it went away when i got older :)

I’m so small so i also used like toddler stuff until like one year ago but then i told dad that its really embarrassing to have like pampers size 7 with like farm animals and stuff and that made me feel sad even if noone ever see it dad thent to the pharmacy and buy like plain white adult/youth diaper and then im like at sleepover i use drynites bedwetting pants cuz they are most diskrete. I don’t have accidents in daytime but if i like fall asleep in the car it sometimes happening so if we travel far i use drynites under my clothes. I have never been bullied for it and only my closest friends now so it’s not the worst thing but still it make me sad sometimes

My sister did up until high school. She was just a really deep sleeper and she still barely wakes up to go in the middle of the night.

If my friend would have Done that against his sister i would have kicked his a** What happened? What did the other kids say? I live in a very small place so probably all already know it but noone have told me they do but like 5 kids that have sleeped over at my place or me at there place know for shure and probably some of them have told someone else and then .. yes it’s a small place you get it.

When I was a child I didn't wake up when I needed to go to the bathroom nut instead I had nightmares and screamed and cried in my sleep so my mother woke up and carried me to the toilet to pee then put me back in bed.. as I became a little older like you I didn't wake up ether but instead I walked in my sleep to the toilet to pee and walked back to bed without knowing as my mother told me. I think every body is different but we all have to go through this process somehow when growing up and it's completely normal no matter how the process looks like. Good for you on sharing! 😊💪🏻🌸

So me for myself I don’t remember it as a problem but my elderly child has had it. For Germany I can tell you in average it is one child per class in primary school which is still having trouble with it. We have pädiatrists who say, with 6 years you control whether there is an organic reason, but if not, it’s just the brain who needs to grow “older”. So for my daughter it passes with 11 if I remember correctly- it never turned back again. And she is a really brainy, healthy individual. We have to unshame this theme. Brave, that you are mentioning it! 👏

Thanx for answer! My doctor also say i Will grow out of it and that is more common then i think but most ppl don’t talk bout it. I hope to grow out of it soon. Doctor say that most kids grow out then puberty hits if not earlier and I’m a late bloomer 😳🫣👶🏻 so i hope i soon grow to look more like a teen and also stop with the night thing…

Maybe after 6 or 8 year old I can control it(?) Before 6, I did use to wake up in the midnight with wet sheets. Mom gave me her "period pad", a large waterproof pad as a solution. That pad was large enough for me even I rolled here and there in bed.

I didn't try diapers tho because they're too warm when I try to sleep.

I put my ipad there to show u the size of it. It's not the original one from my mom. That old pad is already lost in some corner in this world. I haven't spotted it for a couple of years.

Thanx for answer! I also tried like a pad but don’t know if its diff then boy and girl but with pad my blanket got all wet and sometime also my pillow so it didn’t work so dad say it was better to you pull ups but they often leak so now i have like your diapers 😳🫣 and it’s embarrassing if someone se me in it but i have been better at hide them and dad buy overslzed pj:s so they don’t show so much and the good thing is that i don’t need to change i the night so i get a good night sleep. In summer its really hot but dad installed climate controll in my room so now it works in summer also.

You did great in sharing. There is no shame or judge me here. honestly if your friends make fun of you for something that you cannot control that is not cool. Hopefully you will have good friends and they won’t make fun of you but will understand and will actually make you feel comfortable or maybe give you advice for what they did to help .

My friends don’t make fun of me but if new friend - it’s not easy to know if it’s like a real friend or not then they ask first time to sleepover.

I tend to pee my pants when I’m stressed. I wait too long to use the bathroom I tried to hold it until the last second. Usually because I’m on a roll we’re doing something and I don’t wanna lose that momentum. If you have a urinary check infection or a bladder infection, you could pee.. some people when they have a seizure disorder they pee in their pants. Have you seen a doctor outside of your family? That might be helpful.

Thanx for telling! Yes dad takes me to a children’s doctor like two times a year to check me up. He is a good doctor i think and like experts on ADHD and things like this. He told me that this is probably cuz me sleeping very deep and don’t wake up easy and cuz I have a bladder that is not mature (I don’t know exact word in English) and like some mor thing. He say it is a lot of boys that have this pblm but I have it a little bit longer then most other kids but eventually I will outgrow it.

My son is 8, and he still sleeps with protection as well. He probably will for several more years. Every dry morning is a victory. You may want to try limiting your liquids to before 7PM (19:00, if you do 24 hour time). My son will drink a lot of water just before bed but he is more victorious with dry mornings when he doesn’t.

Dad had like a rule like you have for your son then i was younger but i didn’t like that cuz it like reminded me that i could fix it and i have like never had more then one ”dry night” in a row for whole my life. Now the rule is that if i don’t want to wear protection - i have to fix everything with take of all wet stuff from bed, Washing, make new bed with matteesscover and everything changed and then hang upp everything from washmashin to dry, take it down and out in the wardrobe for bed linen cuz dad say he won’t do it if I choose to don’t make life easier with by wearing a diaper 🫣 to bed. If I wear it but it leak he normaly fix my bed then in school so I don’t need to think bout it if I want to bring a friend right after school cuz no one of us want to do it directly in the morning. (but that is like less then 1 time/month). I tried that like 3 times and it sucks to wash peed bed linen and duvets and make bed and stuff - takes to much time and is super boring so he don’t need to make me use protection- I do it by free will now (the I was like your boys age I didn’t had a choice)

We just treat it like a normal thing, so he never complains about feeling like a baby. Even with the pull-up on I sometimes have to check with him that he didn’t forget, because he has put on underwear out of habit. When I was a kid, we just had to wash the sheets a lot and there was a thick plastic cover for the mattress so things have really gotten better. I think I was about 9 when my bladder caught up to my body. Our rule is if he can stay dry for a week, no more “protection” needed.

Thank you for advice! My doctor tells me to don’t drink so much after dinner ao I have tried it but I dont think it helps me so much but instead it’s really hard and makes like a bit to boring the. Watching a movie or something. Before dad was like: “you are not allowed to drink late” but then I explained to him that it was not really helping me he changed that rule and now I can do as I like (but I’m not allowed to much suger other days then like Fridays and Saturdays). Say hi to your son from me and tell him you talked to a 13 yo that use protection at night the. He complains about feeling like baby - it’s easier then knowing that you are not the oldest one with a diaper 😳👶🏻😝
