Not losing hope

When you’re changing careers, and you’re bank account is bottoming out…what are good ways to stay positive and motivated?

So, adhd brains need to activate our reward cycle (dopamine). Do something you enjoy a lot THEN ride the dopamine wave and do something you need to do. Go hug someone a few times a day. Text someone for a few minutes then do a small chore. Eating the frog (the hardest task first) doesn’t work for us ADHDers. Do 3-4 tasks daily and go. If you have energy to do more, it’s ok to do more but don’t use energy you won’t have tomorrow, ok? Don’t want to overload yourself.

I threw away a note today that said eat the frog. Clearly didn’t work for me. Thanks for the perspective!

Once you hit rock bottom, the only way to go is up…or stay still which some times is needed and that’s ok. Taking breaks is great so long as it isn’t like all day or for days. Self-care is important but don’t let it be a distraction, use timers to help you take your break but then get back up even if you don’t feel like it. I find once I start going, momentum, I find motivation is easier. It’s just getting started is the hardest part.

Going outside first thing helps, even if you have to rug up!

I'm in the same place... I make saving money into a competition with myself. How little am I able to use?

Anxiety is when your brain is centered on the future. Your picture of the future is *always* imaginary. Anxiety tends to bend all “facts” in this imaginary future toward the catastrophic. Search the web for “grounding techniques” to pull your brain into the present and remember this is the place you take action and assess status…not the imagined future.

I’m not an adult so I don’t quit relate to the situation you are in, but here is what I recommend. Every day do something in the morning that gets you to a productive and refreshing start. For example wake up extra early to go to a cafe and read a book. This will calm you down and refresh you for the day setting you up for a positive and productive day.
