I am working on my dissertation - so I am also struggling with the writing every day thing. FocusMate has helped a little (I have a referral code if you want - no pressure) and so has pairing writing with something else I really like to do. I tried making some mini-challenges for my self (number of words in an hour or day, sections completed in a week) but the quality of what I wrote suffered. Lately what has helped the most is not focusing on daily writing, but following a couple of rules that I found about working out - start the week right (no missing Mondays), no skips 2 days in a row, and anything is better than nothing (my “anything” is 250 words). I also remind myself that opening the file and reading/editing/formatting/other similar is not writing - but is still working on it, so I let myself do that once per week. And sometimes I even leave myself comments of what I want to do during that time - I captured the idea but don't get lost. One other thing that has really helped - and might help with your one at a time problem - is I keep a notebook (paper and pencil) that is just for the “oh I need to” non-writing things that come up. My distraction tends to be remembering something that needs to get done as soon as I am at my desk, and then I get up/stop writing to take care of it before I forget. It might work for jotting down the other stories so you don't forget the idea without getting distracted from the story you are working on. Also - happy to meet another writer. Please let me know if you want to stay connected.
I saw an app in the Apple App Store. Looking up ADHD, and one of the apps down a bit was about focusing on writing. Suggest looking there.
