Link between ADHD and PTSD

I was reading that people with ADHD have can have stronger psychological symptoms stemming from trauma: We are 4 times as likely to develop PTSD. And you’re twice as likely to develop ADHD if you’ve survived a trauma. This is fascinating but researchers are still working to understand the link.

Yeah, I got told my PTSD is more intense for me because of having ADHD. Emotional regulation is a big thing I struggle with as part of my ADHD so I guess it makes sense that I’d be more likely to get PTSD from a traumatic event since I’m already more easily overwhelmed

Yes, and, ADHD is a neurobiological condition so can't be *caused* by trauma, although trauma symptoms could look like ADHD (but then the ADHD symptoms would go away once the trauma is treated). People with ADHD are more likely to experience relational trauma because we struggle so much more than neurotypical people do in this world. Kids with ADHD get so much more criticism, and quite frankly are more likely to be abused/maltreated in both overt and covert ways. If this was a reading by Gabor Mate do yourself a favor and burn it 😅 he's awful.

I can confirm this, based on having PTSD.
