Has anyone tried Wellbutrin / Bupropion for ADHD?

I was diagnosed with ADHD about half a year ago and started taking Wellbutrin (Bupropion) for ADHD around two and a half months ago. I know Wellbutrin isn’t officially approved for ADHD in most places, but it’s very commonly prescribed off-label. I think in the U.S. it might actually be officially approved for ADHD, but I’m not completely sure. The full effect of Bupropion can take time to really kick in — usually around 6–8 weeks — but you can sometimes notice a difference within the first few days. I’ve been taking it for about two months now, and I feel like the effect keeps getting stronger over time. Right now, I think it’s working really, really well. It helps me a lot. I feel much calmer, my mind feels completely clearer, and I get into things much more easily. It doesn’t feel at all like I’m taking a medication — I just feel normal, only better. One thing I’ve noticed: when I take it in the morning and also have something with caffeine, I feel perfectly dialed in. I haven’t tried stimulants yet, but I have an appointment with my psychiatrist in a month to possibly try combining Wellbutrin with stimulants. That said, I can imagine that Wellbutrin on its own might actually be enough for me. Has anyone here tried Wellbutrin for ADHD, either alone or in combination with stimulants? I’d love to hear your experiences.

I’ve been taking a new med, Auvelity, for maybe half a year now - it has Wellbutrin in it. I also take Concerta. I feel way more balanced now than I did on Adderall and Lexapro; for quite a while before I switched meds, things were not good… angry and easily unsettled mood, hyper fixation, impulsive spending to fill a hole, burnout experienced more easily, especially in winter when I pushed through all year and then suddenly had a break and not as much socializing 😮‍💨, a lot of mind wandering…etc. Wellbutrin works well for a lot of people, so it’s great knowing it works well for you, also. 🙌🏼 Also, I tried Bupropion (Buspar) with my Auvelity and Concerta, and the Buspar made me SO tired, I had to stop with it.

Thank you for sharing. That is great information as my son age 21 was just prescribed Wellbutrin for depression and ADHD. But also Vivance. I guess time will tell if it works. Mind you The Vivance will be masking the Wellbutrin to see if it works for the ADHD. But I’m looking forward to see how well it works for his depression and anxiety.

I didn't know those non stimulants existed. Been taking medication for some months now. Works OK. Worked better in the beginning but now I can't tell and sometimes I don't feel all that more focused and clear minded. I've already reached out to my psichiatriast about it too. Gonna wait to hear what she has to say about it.

I myself am on Adderall. I have noticed that my mind wanders more now and I am hyper fixating on projects again. The rest of my issues like routine, procrastination and problems with spending are still in check. The Dr. did say that your body does get used to the dose and then it has to be increased. I think the most important thing I learned was routines keep me in check. The hyper fixation on projects just means I will now have to set a timer so the day doesn’t slip away and stay on track. I do list my projects on my to do list so that I have a slot to work on them. Hope that helps.
