What Sukkot is and how we do it in my family

Hi! I’m Noah and I wanna tell you all about Sukkot cuz most ppl in my school think it’s like jewish halloween or something but it’s not haha Sukkot is a jewish holiday that comes after Yom Kippur. This year 2025 it start in the evening of October 6 and ends in the evening of October 13 (in Israel it’s one day shorter). My grandpa Mose say it’s one of the three big holidays when jews long time ago went to the temple in Jerusalem You build a little hut called a sukka, it means like leaf hut, and we eat there all week. Grandpa say we do it to remember when our ppl lived in huts in the desert after leaving Egypt and also to remind us that nothing in life is really safe forever and we must trust Hashem (that means God) not only walls and roof At my our farm we build our sukka near the barn. It’s made of wood and the roof is birch and spruce branches so we can see the stars in the night. Grandpa hang apples and corn and colorful ropes and I make signs that say “Chag Sameach!” (means happy holiday) Grandpa read prayers in Hebrew every day and he has those plants you wave – lulav, etrog, hadass and arava. They mean different parts of a person and that everyone is needed. Sometimes I can hold them too but I’m always scared to drop the etrog cuz it’s yellow and super expensive We eat soup and bread inside the sukka and I light the candles when it’s dark. My dad is not religious but he always help to build the sukka and he say it’s good to keep tradition. Grandpa always say Sukkot is a happy holiday and that we must be thankful for everything we have My favorite part is when we sit there at night and it’s cold outside but warm inside (cuz we cheat a little and put a gas heater cuz we live in Sweden 👻🥶🇸🇪) and it smell like wood and food and grandpa tell old stories. Then it feels like the world stop for a little while and everything is calm and safe Chag Sameach! (“Happy Holiday” in Hebrew!) And i wish all of you a great Sukkot 💙🕎✡️ /Noah 👻🇸🇪
