How My Relationships Have Been Impacted

As someone with ADHD, I've experienced firsthand how my symptoms can impact my relationships. My forgetfulness and impulsivity have caused tension at times, but I've also found that my creativity and spontaneity have brought new energy and fun to my relationships. Over time, I've learned to manage my symptoms and communicate openly with my loved ones about how ADHD affects me. By being honest and proactive, I've been able to build stronger, healthier relationships. So, if you're living with ADHD, how has it impacted your relationships?

I have issues with time perception, memory, and object permanence… so unless my person is in my line of site on a daily basis I will kind of forget about them. 😬 For me, it seems like I talked with them two days ago but to them it might be two weeks. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thanks for sharing I can definitely relate. My girlfriend recently left me after five years. I’ve suffered with bad issues with concentration, procrastination, perception of time etc. my whole life and I only recently got on the diagnosis waiting list in the UK. Without this diagnosis she unfortunately started to take these difficulties I have as a sign I didn’t care about the relationship or was putting in enough effort - in reality I was working to my maximum trying to keep my life in order and masking my challenges on a daily basis. I wish I had the tools and knowledge I have now for me to communicate why I struggle with these things and that I was simply doing all I could, but equally I’m glad I can now look for someone with the patience and understanding I need to thrive in the future whilst I start to tackle these difficulties :)

I totally understand. The waitlist here in the U.K. has been dreadful. I went private after three years of waiting. Adhd has effected all my relationships and I’ve struggled so much. It’s tough. But now that you have your diagnosis you’re better equipped to know why you are the way you are in relationships. Sadly you lost your girlfriend but maybe in the future you’ll find a more meaningful and real relationship based on knowing who you are. Good luck.
