Have you tried setting timers for the easiest thing on the list? When the time goes off do that ONE easy thing. It could be make coffee. And after you do the one easy thing, DONT SIT BACK DOWN, do another easy thing. Set a limit for how many thing you’ll Do before you take a break.

You can still make the list but only do 2 to 3 things at a time daily by the end of the week you got ya list done

I am the same! I will make a to do list or a daily plan. Make it all pretty and then don't follow it.

Same! But what has helped me is to only do one thing, then do more if I feel up to it.

Yep. They are never ending and feel so overwhelming. I feel like if I don’t have a list it’s a disaster but having a list paralyses me !! 😫

Best advice I ever got was to only make 3 to do items per day. Even if I think I can do more, just get those 3 action items done. It's achievable and not too scary.

The worst is looking back through one of my many note books. And finding GOALS underlined and all. And NOTHING following. Then remember the drive and enthusiasm i harboured for that brief moment in time, like so many great ideas just abandoned and just gone. Ugh😪

Saaaame! The best saying I’ve heard is. We don’t have a lack of knowledge it’s in the doing the thing that is at times seemingly (or actually) impossible.

Because, sadly, list isn't for motivation. It is for sorting and arranging tasks and thoughts, when you're already motivated.

So far splitting these list items into smaller bites on the app here IS helping, but I totally feel you. The motivation aspect is so hard. At least with breaking it down I see progress in my day and not huge overwhelming projects that loom failure at me. It’s just sweep the floor, not reorganize and deep clean the whole dang house. You got this 💪 just one day at a time. When I struggled with failure as a kid, My mom always asked me, “but did you do your best?” And if that answer is yes, “Then you already succeeded” 💗

To do lists are like drinking poison for me. This worked really well for me for a while but unfortunately I’m so mentally messed up right now nothings really working but I hope this can work for you. Instead of a to do list I have a Done list. I would start every day with a notepad and write the day down and then literally right down every single thing that I did and check it off. Even small things like take my medicine brush my teeth. The more I did this the more I wanted to have my list filled out. It also really helped me realize that I actually accomplish far more on a daily basis than I ever gave myself credit for.

The “done” list is good for me, but somehow comes off as “excuses” to my partner. So I do it for me and don’t show it to her.

I do this too in my phone calendar. It also helps me keep track of bills (and when I pay them) and when I've changed my contacts and whatnot. If I don't do something on that exact hour, I change it. Its like for "my records". I'm also very forgetful and sometimes overlook handwritten notes so if it's in my phone (something I look at every day) then it's gonna be easier to remember.

I think I am doing this. I have a physical planner and I like to track everything I did in it and highlight in different colors that represent different areas of my life. Work, family time, hobbies, personal goals, health and wellness, and household maintenance. It is very satisfying to see the week at a glance and see by color where my time is going.

This might sound unhelpful but I make multiple lists? Like, make them slightly themed or based on priority and then I at least know I have the tasks all written down but it's not as overwhelming as one big long list.

queenmay avatar

Same problem here. I need to dump all my to dos on a list because I’m worried I’ll forget them otherwise. But then I get overwhelmed at the list and put it all off. I usually try to have a master list going, which includes tasks I know I won’t get to for a while, and a daily to do list that I start every morning so I can prioritize. This helps. Sometimes…

Next app will be called Baby Bear Steps. Just enough info to be meaningful but not so simplified to be be overwhelming. The just right goldilocks zone of Baby Bear Steps. Conserve your executive function to make more efficient bear family home break-ins for porridge, comfy chairs, and bedding.

I’m theory I know lots of things that should *theoretically* help with this, but I feel like such a hypocrite sharing that advice because I can’t make it work for me. The only thing that sometimes helps a little is dedicating a day to do a huge brain dump, then pick 1-3 things off that list/day to do & hope that it gets done. When it doesn’t, I usually spiral, & it takes a while to get back on track again. You’re so not alone in this

Rialc avatar

Same I spend sp long on the list and then have no time to do the tasks on the list because I overthink it all

homegnome82 avatar

The lists I end up making become too unrealistic or overwhelming. I spiral and will put a hundred things on it for the day then feel so guilty and like a complete failure because I can’t bring myself to do a single one of them from being overwhelmed.

I have the same problem:) It’s so difficult, start to do something if I don’t want to do it.
