What do you do?

I tried therapy and both therapist I’ve had I’ve dropped because it felt too superficial. I feel too self aware for them, I don’t want to keep hopping between them before I find someone, it’s so emotionally draining but I guess that I don’t have a choice? Also haven’t had a psychological evaluation done to prove I have adhd but too many thing ma correlate, maybe this will help.

A real diagnosis is helpful. It is something concrete to work with when everything feels tumultuous . I have learned from trial and error: 1. Be your own advocate, although exhausting, cause no one else can do it for you. 2. Choose a professional that can accurately diagnose you AND can prescribe the best Rx and therapy for you. 2. Approach talk therapy with an open mind. It is important to find the right person but it may take 3-4 appts to really know. 3. Tell the therapist upfront that you found the previous therapist superficial. Explain why. 3. If you walk away from an hour talk session… with just ONE helpful thing, CONSIDER IT A SUCCESS. 4. A therapist that specializes in ADHD is a plus. Many well educated counselors don’t fully understand ADHD issues.
