Going sober

Anyone here have experience with getting sober with ADHD? I’ve been alc. free for two months..so much learning. It’s HARD to not numb the sensitivity and rawness of the world, especially after a big day.

Yes I used to be an alcoholic (5 years sober this October) I actually only just learned 6 months ago I have adhd (diagnosed inattentive and impulsive) So looking back, I was just self medicating. I didn’t feel like i fit in anywhere unless I was drinking…..I didn’t even realise I felt like this until I’d been sober for quite some time. I actually in all honesty thought I was an extrovert who loved being around people all the time. Now I’m learning that I’m actually not very peopley (unless I’m close to them) so it makes sense I used to have to drink to be in a group.

Yes! Medication does help, and I too can’t seem to help myself from going over board with all, my medication also amplifies the alcohol so it was all around bad news bears for me.

Yes, I've self-medicated with alcohol. I too long for that feeling of letting the mind rest. Currently I don't drink at all, but previously I've tried not having alcohol around at home, and just having some beers when I'm at a social gathering. I also struggle with not drinking too much when I do though. I should add that I'm not on any ADHD medication due to me not having an official diagnosis (which is required here). I'm in a queue for getting an assessment though. I'd like to think some of that urge would go away if my mind got to rest through meds.
