We have make our peace with clutter. It is part of what we are in this neurodivergent house. We just try to not let the clutter get worst but we accept the books all over the place, the dog’s toys everywhere, the clothes on every chairs… Sometimes it is very annoying though (I have lost a nice pair of socks on my desk -yes 🫣- for one month).

I very much do not have a system of any kind and my place is living proof šŸ™ˆ But I think I know what the root of the problem is (for me, don’t know if it’s the same for everyone) If something has a logical ā€œhomeā€, I always put it back in its place. But my problem is that not everything has a home. And it’s not as easy as just making one up - it either comes to me, or it just goes on a pile šŸ™ˆ I have yet to figure out if maybe the piles are the logical homes for these items, or if they just don’t have one. But sadly I don’t have a good system for assigning these homes. On the contrary, if I put things away, just to tidy up, I could also just throw them out, because they are never to be found again anyway šŸ™ˆ

When I was a kid I used to play pretend that I had a ā€œcleaning showā€ and I was the host. Dressing up all nice and explaining for the audience what I do. I got in to character, and played around with it. Now I’m all grown up and I still do this when I clean, and it makes it fun!!

Mines all piled onto my bed and it sucks since it been over a couple months and I feel sick looking at it and cleaning it makes me feel worse. I’ve resorted to sleeping in a mattress on the floor. Im hoping I get the burst/drive to clean it soon cause. It feels suffocating

I love you for sharing this! šŸ™šŸ„² I am struggling so so so hard with keeping my home tidy! I believe that we struggle to keep it tidy because we are trying to adapt to a neurotypical organisational system… The fridge for example, I have finally completely rearranged. The condiments are in the veggie drawers where I never look, and instead vegetables, fruit, proteins and other things that expire are now on the main-shelves. Too small boxes and compartments make it too cluttered for me, but big shelves and drawers and boxes make it impossible to quickly overlook what is in there, so I avoid too big or too small storage units. Another thing… I don’t put my folded clothes on top of each other in the drawers, instead I place them as if they would be paper archives šŸ˜… so you can browse through quickly without having to lift up anything. However hanging clothes is what is best for me, so I have been wanting for so long to add another rod in my closet, but I got stuck halfway… as I sort of suck at finishing tasks… so I left everything in chaos when I lost my energy 🫣 But you have reminded me āļø I desperately need to arrange my closet already as my clothes are lying around the house in bags… and I never find anything to wear and I waste a lot of time every day because of this. šŸ’› If you don’t mind, have an idea šŸ’” How about putting some loving pressure on ourselves… by keeping each other accountable? I will share some embarrassing pics, and I will update you on my progress. And if you want to do the same, I will be here to hold you accountable too šŸ’›
