Hyperfixation on something I can’t do (lacks skill)

I’m really bored lately and something I REALLY want to do is make songs, I really enjoy writing lyrics to cope, but I can’t do much else besides write lyrics. I’m so under stimulated my adhd is like GET UP AND DO SOMETHING and I’ll get so hyperfixated on writing lyrics, but won’t be able to go any further than that, and it makes me really sad. Music theory involves a lot of math but math intimidates me a lot and I’m really bad at it. Does anyone else have a hyperfixation they can’t really do that well so it makes you sad that you can’t do it as much as you’d like to or to the extent you’d like to? What do i do?

Y’all, I’m a teacher, verified in music and math. And the idea of helping someone get either one sounds fun. I’ll be happy to talk if y’all want! That’s kind of an exciting thought. Taught music notation to kindergarteners. :) don’t be skerrred.

Some things are a lot more in reach than we realize, we just gotta do a little research and find what method works best for us. I myself majored in Audio Production at Full Sail University. Feel free to reach out if you have any music questions; i’m more than willing to share what I know. Take care!

Hyper-fixation is a regular occurrence in my life. Whenever i get stuck on something i know im not very great at, i’ll spend as much time as i can tolerate learning more and more about it. Music, for example, can be made with very little knowledge of music theory and such. Gathering sound loops and piecing them together could be a very effective way for both of you to make your own songs without feeling trapped by the intricate theories in between.

I have no solutions for you, but I do have that same issue with music theory! Really want to learn, terrible at math. Also terrible at making myself stick to a self-paced class, so a lot of my interests fall by the wayside as a result.
