Machine learning and shifting career

Anyone one espcialized in ML or sifted career to tech later in life. I know I am not that old I just turned 30 but I feel it is too late to shift to ML and Data science. I get overwhelmed just by hearning the news about that latest AL stuff and uses chat gpt, midjourney...etc. I am thinking maybe it is not for me but I don't know is that the fear talking or is it really not for me. I am disparate to find a job and find a job to make my career, I am a mathematics teacher not working right now and I don't want to go back to it. I don't imagine myself doing it for the rest of my life Any help, thanks for reading sorry for it being too long.

Well I switched to IT not to long ago and 30yrs old too. Best move I’ve ever made! There are so many different kind of jobs in tech and there’s always something new to learn. I get the overwhelming part - there’s always something newer and better to learn, but just by process of elimination you can find out what works best for you and what exactly you want to do. There’s such a big ask for people in IT you can learn on the job (at least where I am living) and worse comes to worse - you’ll always have teaching to go back to.

Ooh, thank you for your comment it means a lot to hear from someone who has the same experience. How about the overwhelm of not knowing where to start, especially with chatGPT and all that stuff

I’ve been working in the IT field as an Operating Systems software developer for 12 years now. The only thing I can say is: be careful of chasing the “latest hype” or trend, as they just come and go all the time.

I don’t have much life experience to go off but I would say definitely make the career change if you aren’t satisfied with teaching anymore. It is perfectly normal for interests to change in life (see my most recent post). If a career in tech is something that genuinely interests you then go for it! You might end up changing career again in the future, but whatever happens you’ll have all the skills you’ve developed from teaching and tech that could be applied to so many other things!
