Which subtype of ADHD do you have?

combined (ADHD-C), predominantly inattentive (ADHD-PI) or predominantly hyperactive-impulsive (ADHD-HI), (or simply not sure)? I have ADHD-PI.

Inattentive - Diagnosed earlier this year at 44, & while I had wondered to myself off & on if I had it, it still took me a couple months to “believe” & accept. I was v good at masking & basically used the behavior/ symptoms to beat myself up. It was v internal for me. The relief is the compassion I’m now able to offer myself.

ADHD Combined, I was diagnosed at 8 treated with agitating for 5 years. Went off meds at 13. Struggled through life, thought I was fine though. Then at 42 I left my husband, my life had fallen apart after years of ADHD overwhelm with 2 young kids, a narcissistic husband and no family support. Thenc3 months later my father was murdered in my birth country. 18 months later I was rediagnosed with ADHD-C and a new diagnosis of Bipolar 2, which was triggered by trauma. ADHDers are susceptible to this when experiencing high stress or trauma. So please be aware. It took me 5 years to get my medication levels right! I've been good for 6 months.

Wow, you have been through a lot! I wish you peace! I also have two (small) children, and just being a parent is hard, let alone everything on top that you describe. Re: bipolar, one of my cousin's children has it (don't know which type). I think it's genetic, but as you said, it can be dormant and triggered by trauma.

Combined here, was diagnosed, one year ago, at age 36 by a psychiatrist. I figured out myself almost 2 years ago, but it took many months before I finally made the appointment to seek help, then it took another 6 months until I was diagnosed.

Thanks for sharing! Yeah, I was waiting 1 year (through universal healthcare), with most likely one year more to go... Contacted a private clinic and paid out of pocket instead, and then it was done in about 2 months.

Some bonus questions: How old were you when you got diagnosed (if not self-diagnosed)? When did you realize that it was ADHD? I got diagnosed about a month ago (at 34), though I had known what it was for more than a year prior.

I was 65. I took a list of 14 symptoms to fam dr, told him I had 13/14 and examples. He said adults don’t get ADD/ADHD. You either display it I n childhood or you don’t have it. He wasn’t happy prescribing a med but he was pleased in f/u visit when I told him it was changing my life.
