Phone Procrastination

Any tips on how to avoid social media/internet/phone procrastination?

I have found the Opal app extremely helpful (even the free version!). Otherwise for me it’s about leaving my phone in another room as much as I can.

Depending on your phone, my screen time used to be 8+ hours and it felt like my whole life revolved around my phone. I found that turning on Work Mode and not seeing these notifications flood thru has helped me stop reaching for my phone all the time. I got to a point where I hardly use my phone now because it’s not dinging every 5 seconds lol so that’s something you can try!

What helps me is to determine the cause of my procrastination. Why am I trying to distance myself from this task? Am I afraid if so of what? Can I do something about it (if so then I do if not then I dont have to worry about it). Dichotomy of control helps with a lot of the procrastination in my life. TLDR; figure out why you try to distance yourself from the problem.

I second this. You may be trying to avoid an uncomfortable feeling from a task (like folding laundry, because it seems daunting and exhausting to fold all these clothes.) The next time you pick up your phone, I'd like you to ask yourself why. How are you feeling in that moment? And then take a step back- especially if you weren't even aware that you were doing it. Be in tune with yourself. You are in control. You can do this.
