Anyone else has this weird hyper focus?

Bugs, parasites and possible symptoms of having those… From my childhood, I was a real knowledge-eater. One day, Mom gave me a little book named “Secret paths of death-makers” or something like that. The annotation said that you will be having itching while reading this book. Of course, the book was about the parasites such as fleas. My world has changed so much since that. And a total disaster it was when our neighbours infected all the 9-floor house with fleas!! I was really confused about this, and tried to avoid being at home, but those bugs were everywhere, the fight was bloody and difficult. But then, I had strange loops with my life when I was checking myself if I had any problems with my hair and skin. It was periodically coming to my life, and then dissolving. But as the war started, it became the real phobia of getting infected with little parasites. Hair-based and skin-based. If anyone had an experience of such a problem, how did you cope with this? I am scared of being called weirdo or even psychotic by my closest ones, so I am sharing this here with you. Thank you for your understanding and attention, I really appreciate it 💖✨ Kitty pic for your pleasure 😻

I work in dermatology. We see this often. You are NOT alone! We do a lot of reassurance that your skin is NOT going to get infested with a parasite or any kind of bug, unless you live in a 3rd world country. Generally, the only thing that is possible for your skin to get infested with is scabies. In the rare chance you get scabies, it’s treated and it goes away. Just hearing that the fear is irrational and the chances of it happening are pretty much zero, helps most people. You could also really have itchy skin, which cases a crawling feel sometimes. Mostly at night. Using the proper skin care products and taking an antihistamine, daily, will make that go away. If these things still do not help, we refer to phych.

Thank you for such a wonderful response! That’s really comforting to hear, and I am looking forward to my salary so I can get a consultation with dermatology to get rid of this painful feeling 😻

I have had similar experiences that developed into hyper fixations. Having to deal with fleas is hell, and can be traumatic especially from how hard it can be to get rid of them (and my roommate didn’t really take it seriously until their room became infested enough to notice so I was alone in it for a while.

Sorry to hear about your traumatic experience! Hope your roommate gets more attention to such details and you won’t be fighting for clean space on your own! My Mom had to involve all of our family members (even Grandma, who is quite old and has such liberal attitude about life, was caring about the clean floors to prevent fleas development!)

I can definitely relate! I haven’t learned how to cope yet but if you would like I can share my story of how I can relate! I don’t want to just share without asking because I’m trying to teach my brain not to overshare especially if it might sound like I’m trying to one up especially since that is not what I’m trying to do just trying to show that I understand from experience type of thing. Hopefully all of that makes sense lol Hoping things get easier for you soon.

I would be happy to hear your story! It’s incredible to get to know about peoples experience, as I am hearing different opinions and thoughts - so I can be objective enough while talking with people in the future 💖 and thank you!✨
