Packing day ☹️

Can’t procrastinate any longer, flying tomorrow. What will it take for this process to make more sense? What is packing “supposed” to look like?

I have a weakness for packing small pieces of unnecessary stuff- for electronic accessories like batteries, chargers or cables- I sometimes pack two versions of the same „function“ a short and a long cable but except for that they have the same function.. or headphones- in ear and over ear, although when traveling with my boyfriend, I often rather spend my tome talking instead of being isolated and listen to my own stuff- we share many interests in terms of music/docus/podcasts anyway When it comes to things like food or hygiene products that will be used up completely during the time you get there and you can be sure to get them there- don’t include them in your packing list Otherwise, if you think you want to have it available but are not sure you’ll get it there and have a partly used up product vs. an unused one- of course leave the new one at home, to save on weight! You can revise this category later and ask your self once more if some of the products might be omittable.. I alllllways do a packing list on paper- but often don’t really cross off each thing at the end, because most of it is already noted in my busy while writing it down and in the hours before leaving I often am too stressed with being on time I always try to decide on my outfit for day of traveling ahead, while on one hand checking the local weather and of course the weather of destination- so often it is a layered look Sometimes I struggle with including things in my luggage I still had to use the night before- pyjamas, house slippers, tooth brush, sleeping mask- maybe even favorite pillow! So it is important to have this area extra visible on your list. I often do a road map for busy mornings, which especially let’s me see at a glance when there is option to have two things running simultaneously- I.e. the water needs 8 minutes to be boiling hot for tea- enough time to wash my hair! Since I am VERY prone to forget things going on out of sight, at least if it contains electrical devices constantly running on power, I will take a kitchen timer with me, set a time and if it is very urgent- put a sticky note to it actually! If I am unsure if I might need more time, I just set the heat on the second highest temperature or even medium. But for the timer there will only be added a few minutes more than usually needed for the task- this way I will have a moment longer before it is due but will be there by the time it is actually boiling and will be already about to do other stiff while waiting for it, but being in the same room- like toasting bread, using the microwave, washing up some dishes.. So even if this last block seemed off-topic, I wanted to show how a „task road map“ on busy days where every minute counts and should be used with consideration so that the risk to run late is minimized! My task road map to get going while still being extremely tired after waking can look like this for example: -Get up, bring light in (open curtains or turn on bright lights when too dark) -put face scrub/mask on -heat up tea in microwave -drink a sip of water/take out food out of the fridge or let oats soak for muesli -quickly get fresh (armpits/deo)/rinse off mask -open windows/fresh air exchange -get dressed -cut bread/toast bread eat breakfast -wash dishes, dry them and put away everything breakfast related..leave a clean kitchen! -empty the trash before you leave! -give your plants enough water ….hope you it males sense :) -EVERY ITEM handled in the morning you might needed for traveling should be put to the place of remaining stuff waiting to be packed in! PJs, hair brush, tooth brush, slippers, pill organizer, etc -remember to also write on the list to make a round tour through every room to close windows, curtains, turn down heaters, turn off lights or power sources and unplug electrical devices! Especially the stove

I start with “What do I NEED when I get there?” That stuff gets it’s own easy-to-find spot. Then the rest goes by categories.

What are some of your categories?

can you have the task broken down into smaller steps? Some tasks it understands and some it doesnt. It helped me get started with "clean the kitchen" by breaking it down into 5 steps. When I'm organized, packing looks like all the stuff I'd need (already written down on a checklist) laid out on my bed or table and then I can see how it needs to be organized into my luggage. Checklists are the best place to start.

Thank you. It’s the decision-making that kills me, and taking things out that are my favorite items (why is it that everything becomes a “favorite” when packing?).
